Lease Request - Oregon Ave / Old Tannery Site
The Park association submitted a formal request to lease the Tannery site in Mercersburg. On Monday we presented a letter to the Borough of Mercersburg asking for a long term lease of the vacant lot on Oregon Ave. We believe that we can address the needed improvements to the site and create a great public park on that property. We also would like to take advantage of state grant funds, and the most possible grant money would require us to be in a lease agreement with the town. Hopefully by the next town meeting we'll know if the town council accepts our requests and meets with us to finalize a lease agreement. We have been working out several contingency plans in the mean time. We are getting anxious to begin this great community project.

Great Fundraiser Event 5-10-14!
On Saturday, 5-10, Mercersburg Park Association put on a great fundraising event. With help from Romeos, Roy Pitz Brewery, The Mansion house, and the 4 bands we were able to put on quite a show. We would like to thank all of you for contributing to this great event. Those of you who were there know that the bands rocked the house! Their music and volunteer effort made this event extra special. What was really interesting was that 90% of the talent showcased on that stage was from this town! We could feel the good vibes being given out for the bands, the town, and our park. We raised several thousand dollars for our park, so thanks to all who bought tickets for the event as well.
For those of you who missed the event we still have t-shirts for sale, and we accept monitory donations via paypal link. We hope that you all feel our efforts to organize and build this park is worthy of your support. Thanks to those who have stepped up to help.

Only one week left before our Mercersburg Park Benefit "A Night of Music" at the Mansion House. We've added one more musical act, Nick Andrew Starver at 6pm! This is full lineup of awesomeness that is well worth the $20 charge ($25 at the door). To add on to all the greatness the bands bring, we will be selling Romeo's Pizza slices, $2/slice (extra large cut). Hard to beat that deal however Romoes is offering a promo: a free large cheese pizza with the purchase of tickets at Romeos! So go get dinner and a show and support an great community project. There will be two special kegs from Roy Pitz as well, with sales going to the creation of the park! Tickets are also available from the Mansion House, Mercersburg Beverage, and Greencastle Bicycle Exchange. For a menu or directions visit http://www.romeosofmercersburg.com.

Mercersburg Park Overview
The included pictures can let you all see a conceptual drawing of the proposed park. While this is just an example of what is possible, it shows our desired layout, the use of the land, and how it will make a little bit of something for everyone. The three key aspects of the park are the off-leash dog area to the west side of the park, the modern playground with a handicapped accessible area, and a concrete skatepark. Providing a safe, modern, easily accessible park in the heart of Mercersburg is ideal. We are working with the town and hopefully soon the state to secure the use of the old Tannery Site on Oregon St across from Romeo's Pizza. This area is level, open, and accessible. It would be possible to work through any issue to ensure a safe, modern, and fun park. With access for the handicapped, picnic benches, ample parking, and professional installation, this park can be the pride of the town. We believe this park is good for the town beyond providing access for our residents to recreate. A modern and well-kept park attracts families to our town, making home sales here more attractive. Similarly families from the surrounding community will come here to recreate, spend their money, and increase the possibility of Mercersburg as a destination rather than a thoroughfare. Welcome to Mercersburg Park Blog
Welcome to our park blog. We are interested in creating a park in Mercersburg PA that has all the elements of a first class park. Our initial intention is to create a playground, off leash dog run, a skatepark, and some picnic areas. This will address many of the issues our town has right now without an updated and safe place for our children to play, our dogs to run freely, and our community to relax. Our idea is to use the Tannery site, on Oregon Ave. We believe that this site could be ideal for the types of recreation we envision. It is central for all in the community, it is easy to get to, it has enough space, and with a little preparation can be a great park. Of course there are issues that still need to be addressed, but overall it can work as we envision. If you are a person in our community who would like to join us in our quest for a park, please consider supporting it financially as well as actively. Come to our announced meetings, help us raise funds to build it, volunteer your time to help plan it, build it, and keep it clean. All these actions will bring a great resource to our community with a maximum benefit to our community. Contact us via Facebook at "Skate Mercersburg".
