Thursday, March 24, 2016
The Event on Sunday March 20th unveiled a plan for the use of the property located off of Park Ave. in Mercersburg. The picture and overlays outlines a vision for the park, how many of the areas could fit in with an entrance off of Park Avenue. The red line is the outline of the 100 year flood line, a place where we couldn't build certain parts of the plan like stormwater catchments or the skatepark. Within those areas however we can build the off leash dog run, the play field and some other areas. The dark red area near the parking lot is the community center. Our thinking on the community center is it would have a basketball court, meeting rooms, bathrooms, and a kitchen/vending area for events. The light area in the top left corner is a 10,000 sq.ft. skatepark. All these areas including the parking, the fields, and buildings are able to be changed, and are used here as examples for how a park could look in this area. As we progress we welcome your input into making this park something for everyone in the town. Help us make this a possibility by joining our group, donating resources, and providing feedback. 100% of our board has invested in this park.

Executive Board for Park Elected- call for Board Members
In November the creation of the Executive Board was established. Jason Cotton was elected as the President of the Mercersburg Park Association. Clifford Pine was chosen as the Vice President, Ryan Smith as the Secretary, and Todd McGuire as the Treasurer. In December and January the call was put out by these Executive Board members to find others interested in serving on the board. The creation of standing committees and planning started for a gala fundraising event in February. Currently work is being done on the overall plan for the park including pricing of each intended area. If you are interested in more information please see our facebook page here. The park association is much closer today to finalizing the legal and non-profit requirements and we should be established fully as a 501 c-3 by the end of January. We are excited about the progress we have made. If you are interested in contributing to our effort please contact us via facebook. We will establish a website this year and email addresses, but for the time being facebook is the most visited area.

New land, new organization, new energy
For those of you who are following our "progress" you'd be happy to know that we have found new people to work with on our project and we are currently working with a land owner in town on a site that will for our park. While we want to inform you of progress, it isn't yet completed, signed, and in the books so to speak so I will only give you a little teaser at this time. We will have more information in a month or two for the general public. We are working with new groups on this project including most youth sports organizations in town, MPMC/MacWell/Johnstons Run. We are currently making a new non-profit for the group and will have a new board of directors in September! If you are interested in serving on the board, have skills that could be useful for our planning, or would like to serve as a coordinator for fundraising for a section or the whole project, please contact us via facebook or by leaving comments on this page.

Lease Request - Oregon Ave / Old Tannery Site
The Park association submitted a formal request to lease the Tannery site in Mercersburg. On Monday we presented a letter to the Borough of Mercersburg asking for a long term lease of the vacant lot on Oregon Ave. We believe that we can address the needed improvements to the site and create a great public park on that property. We also would like to take advantage of state grant funds, and the most possible grant money would require us to be in a lease agreement with the town. Hopefully by the next town meeting we'll know if the town council accepts our requests and meets with us to finalize a lease agreement. We have been working out several contingency plans in the mean time. We are getting anxious to begin this great community project.

Great Fundraiser Event 5-10-14!
On Saturday, 5-10, Mercersburg Park Association put on a great fundraising event. With help from Romeos, Roy Pitz Brewery, The Mansion house, and the 4 bands we were able to put on quite a show. We would like to thank all of you for contributing to this great event. Those of you who were there know that the bands rocked the house! Their music and volunteer effort made this event extra special. What was really interesting was that 90% of the talent showcased on that stage was from this town! We could feel the good vibes being given out for the bands, the town, and our park. We raised several thousand dollars for our park, so thanks to all who bought tickets for the event as well.
For those of you who missed the event we still have t-shirts for sale, and we accept monitory donations via paypal link. We hope that you all feel our efforts to organize and build this park is worthy of your support. Thanks to those who have stepped up to help.
